Some basic stuff about me...

I am Sky - my full name is Spicemill Atlanta Night Sky as registered with The Kennel Club.

I was born on the 4th July 2009 as one of the Spicemill 'American' litter. I have 2 Sisters (all black & gold) & 7 Brothers (5 black & gold and 2 blond) [more].

My mum is Pines Piccolo avec Spicemill (Venka) [more] and my Dad is Apoll von de Reezegeischder (Apoll) [more]. My Breeders are Spicemill [more].

I am a Black & Gold Hovawart. My breed originates from Germany. We are a fairly large dog with semi-long hair.

The name "Hovawart" comes from the German words meaning: the farm / estate guardian. We are general purpose working dogs, calm in the house but full of energy outside or working. Some say we are clever dogs able to learn a lot.

I am therefore hoping to become a qualified Air Scenting Search Dog with SARDA Meridian with Stuart as my handler.

Hovawart Gathering in Coventry

I had a great time meeting Venka (mum), Rubin (brother), Elsa (sister) & Scooby (cousin).

We went nuts playing in the snow in the grounds of the dog show in Coventry on Saturday 20th February 2010.

I do see my mum (Venka) at SARDA Meridian Search Dog Training every second Sunday so it was especially great to see...
Elsa (on the right)...
& Ruben (in the foreground)...

This is me (Sky) with Stuart...
& me (Sky) with Jo...

I hope to see my other brothers and sisters some time.

Sky In Her First Dog Show

I went to my first ever dog show yesterday 20th February 2010- National Working And Pastoral Breeds Society Unbenched Open Show in Coventry .

Stuart entered me into the Class for Hovawart Juniors & the Rare Breads Open Class.

James and Caroline did not make fun and were very, very helpful.

I was a top girl and behaved brilliantly all day.  I worked well on the lead in the ring.  Stuart had the lead too tight in my first class but he did better on the second and I was able to trot nicely along with him.  The only problem I had initially was that I wasn't too keen in the Judge examining me.  Also the Judges expect me to stand and having been told to sit all the time at my dog training classes I am starting to think humans are particularly stupid.  Do they want sit, down or stand - wish they'd make up their minds!

I was Reserved in my first class, which is posh for last place I think!  I definately came last in the second class as they didn't even give me a reserve that time!

I don't mind at all because now Stuart and I know what we need to work on for the next show.  Also I was one of the two youngest dogs there.  When I am full size I think I will stand a better chance.

My First Dog Show - Getting Ready

I am going to my first ever dog show - National Working And Pastoral Breeds Society Unbenched Open Show in Coventry tomorrow 20th February 2010.

Stuart has entered me in the Hovawart Junior & Rare Breeds Open Classes. He is not nervous but knows that James & Caroline are going to make fun of him and laugh at all his mistakes!!

We have been doing a little lead work and if I stay focussed I am not bad. For some reason I am better when we are jogging. Let's see what happens on the day. Wish me luck!

I am also hoping to see some of my brothers and sisters as well as other relatives. It should be a great day.

Here Goes for my Bronze Award

I started going to Bronze Award classes with Ashford Dog Training Club on the 3rd January.  All my friends from the Puppy class have joined as well.

Things have been going well.  Stuart seems to think that it is because I'll do anything for food.  He's one to talk!!!  Pot calling...

I have got all the basics and really good at wait and stay.  Only seem to struggle with distractions involving food.

Assessment is in two weeks.  Paws crossed I'll get through, especially as I need this to be able to go for my pre-assessment when I am 12 months old as a potential trainee air scenting search and rescue dog with SARDA Meridian.

Puppy Training Completed

On the 7th December 2009 I completed The Puppy Foundation Assessment with... Ashford Dog Training Club.

This club is run by Sandra & Lex. They are really good and they tell me the training is really for Stuart and not me. I am perfect but he is a little slow on the uptake but is getting there!

They gave me a certificate and a cool rosette.

The classes were so good I am going straight on to do The Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme Bronze Award.
